Welcome to Clonakilty Writer's Group.

We are a gathering of individuals from all walks of life and all ages who meet together each Thursday for one reason: to share our love of the written word.

We are keen to develop our own particular styles of writing and to share our creativity with each other, for two reasons; firstly, to bring our work into a public domain and secondly, and more importantly, to receive comments, critique and encouragement from our fellow writers. Writing is a lonely act and this is our antidote to isolation. As Paul Cezanne said, "If isolation tempers the strong, it is the stumbling-block of the uncertain. "

We are at many levels of efficiency, writing both prose and poetry, aware of the need to be challenged and to challenge and have some fun in the process.

Our meetings take place on alternate Thursdays. The General Meeting is facilitated in turn by members and begins with a writing exercise followed by individual presentations; there is usually time for brief feedback for those who wish. The library is available for use on alternate Thursdays for those who would like an in-depth critique of their work. This is organised between members when required, work being circulated several days beforehand in order to be read. The General Meeting takes place from 11.00 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Clonakilty Library, Kent Street, Clonakilty. There is no charge and you are more than welcome to come and join us.

Please see the "Meeting Calendar" to check this week's meeting. If in doubt, contact Clonakilty Library- 023 8834275.
